Documentary family photography is a photo session that tells your story. The entire experience is natural, imperfect and special. This is a chance to document a moment in your every day life. As a documentary family photographer, I will be present to capture these precious memories.

What’s it like working with documentary family photographer Heidi Garcia?

Working with me is easy, relaxing and genuine. I will give comfort by asking questions and getting to know you and your family. I will give positive feedback the entire session. I’m also discrete with my photography. And I know how to document natural moments in a way that tells a story. I have a natural ability to make people feel at ease during all photo sessions. And creating beautiful photos comes natural to me. Ultimately, I’ve always had the “photographer’s eye”.

How to prepare for a documentary photography family session?

The truth is you really don’t have to prepare for your documentary photography family session. We can schedule a time and I document what I see as it’s happening. If your home is messy and your children all cranky, I will be there to document that. These moments are a part of life and it is one of my personal goals to document real life and real moments.

Now with all that said, I’m aware that a lot of people want to look their best in photos. So, if you want, feel free to clean up your home or dress however you’d like. This is your story and these are your memories.

Documentary family photography works well when centered around everyday activities. Morning routines, going to school, walking the dog, drawing, painting are some examples of the everyday activities that can be documented.

My approach to documentary family photography?

Documentary style family photography is a unique experience. My approach is to follow the rules of photojournalism. What that means is that I will not direct you or change anything in the environment. I will be present to document moments as they occur naturally, paying attention to moments while creating work of art photography.
